Product Tankers

 A new hardcover book of 256 pages with more than 350 illustrations (about 260 of them in colour) and an index of more than 1000 ship names, by NZS&MS members Nick Tolerton and Mike Pryce. This is the first history of a neglected aspect of shipping. Chapters cover the history of product tankers from the war-built standard ships and the classic post-war general purpose tankers to the innovative specialist product tankers of the late '60s, '70s, and '80s and today's product and chemical carriers. There are also chapters on Shell's and BP's product fleets and on the history of New Zealand's coastal tankers (right up to the addition of Matuku and disposal of Torea). The book is also rich in reminiscences from tanker men including a chapter on ice navigation and a chapter on product tanker involvement in the Vietnam and Falkland wars.
