HOLMDALE 1921-1956

Details

DescriptionBuilt in 1921 by Dublin Shipbuilders Ltd, Dublin and sold to Sydney Holm when on stocks. Dimensions: 54.9 x 8.85 x 3.3 metres. Built as single screw steam but converted to motor in 1937.</p>
Entered Dunedin - Wanganui service in 1922 and remained in this trade for 34 years. A number of incidents over these years included breaking her tailshaft and losing the propeller off Kaikoura in Jun 1929. She was towed into port by the company ship PROGRESS. She was standed three times at Wanganui in 1932, 1941 and 1945 and ran aground in thick fog south of Moeraki in February 1952. She was refloated and repairs were effected at Port Chalmers. Sold in 1956 to overseas interests and sunk off Japan in 1965.
