Description

Built by Swan Hunter, Wallsend in 1949. Length 171 meters. Twin screw diesel. Speed 17 knots.GT 11,942. This ship heralded a new era of streamlining with a swept back bridge front and tapered funnel blending into the surrounding superstructure. The eye catching appearance was the result of a request by the Directors of Port Line that some distinguishing characteristic be introduced into her design as she was to become the flagship of their fleet.
