She was the first Union Company ship not to be built on the Clyde. Takapuna ran between Onehunga and southern ports for 26 years and was part of the first regular Wellington Lyttelton service. She was laid up at Wellington early in 1917 and after use as a storage hulk for a few years, she was sold to Dunedin based shipbreakers in 1924. Dismantled and scuttled in Cook Strait on 18 June 1925.
